Proofreading

Manuscript Critique

Coming before line editing, a manuscript critique reviews the big picture elements and provides you with an editorial report:

Plot. Pace. Structure.
Conflict. Tension. Voice.

A manuscript critique does not make changes to your text - instead, you will receive a comprehensive report outlining suggestions for you to apply yourself.

Price: £300 +£5/1000 words

Developmental Editing

More intensive than a manuscript critique, developmental editing looks at the same concerns, but provides commentary within the manuscript in addition to the report:

Plot. Pace. Structure.
Conflict. Tension.
Voice.

Detailed, actionable comments left within your manuscript, along with chapter summaries and a comprehensive editorial report outlining suggestions for you to apply.

Price: £20/1,000 words (minimum £500)

Confused by what level of editing you need?

My manuscript review service will help.

A manuscript appraisal involves you sending me the complete manuscript as a MS Word document for me to read through. I will then confirm what level of editing I feel would be most appropriate for you and your manuscript.

This might be developmental editing (big picture elements such as plot, pace, conflict, tension, point of view), line/copyediting (sentence level elements such as grammar, punctuation, flow and readability), proofreading (final checking before publication), or none of the above (in which case, I promise to be honest!).

This service costs £250, and if you go on to book me for the recommended level of editing on this manuscript, then £200 of this will be taken off the final editing fee - meaning the manuscript appraisal costs £50.

Does your manuscript need Brit-picking?

Are you an author from outside of the UK, writing a story set in England?

Are you confident that you have all the cultural references correct?

(Spoilers: we don't all like queuing, we don't all obsess over the royal family, we don't all live in London, but we DO drink a lot of tea!)

My British Advisory Service (also known as Brit-picking) costs £250 and involves me reading through your manuscript, assessing your references to British culture and providing a written report outlining any inaccuracies.

As an optional extra, I can also feed back on whether your manuscript needs further editing before you hit the print button.

I promise to be honest!
